The Democratic Republic of Congo is known for a number of things, natural resources, the majestic Congo River, the Nyiragongo volcano, the Bonobos, music, and Sapeurs among others. However, there is a limited number of travelers who knows about the Sapeurs and we think tourism can help to preserve their lifestyle.
The "Sapeurs" was highly spread in Kinshasa and Brazzaville in the past decades thanks to the artist and musician Papa Wemba, today passed away. The word SAPE (Socitété des Ambianceurs et Personnes Elégantes) literally refers to Ambiance-Makers and Elegant People. This class of people are famous for their unusual dress, sometime extremely expensive as they tend to compete among themselves.
