I don't blame op for what happened. They were pushed towards a breaking point and I think they're right that if something wasn't done blackwood would have eventually unintentionally gone too far and kill/brutally injure him. He was also stuck in a good old boys situation where nothing would have been taken seriously. His hands were tied from all angles. I don't see a way where the situation wasn't going to end well for either individual.

He shoved you in a small locked space for 3 hours knowing you have claustrophobia and straight up BRANDED you with a branding iron, and the school wouldn't care. Dude got what he deserved in the end.

This story highlights one fact that bullies always overlook. A person can only be pushed so far. Even the weakest kind hearted person can be pushed to do terrible things if put under enough stress and pain

As the Chicago musical would say "He had it comin', He had it comin', He only had himself to blame, If you'd have been there, If you'd have seen it
I betcha you would have done the same"
The bully had it coming

Just came up with a term for what OP went through. A "Cable Snap" breakdown, in which someones mental state is pulled like a steal cable, and depending on how far it's been stretched(how bad it's been), they can either snap and hit air, snap and cause permanent scars(mentally or physically), or snap and take off the head of someone.
There was a story recently where a guy ran into his old school bully. The bully had changed and as it turns out, the same event which was essentially the peak of the bullying was a trigger for a revenge play, the bully ended up in the hospital and was left to re-evaluate her life.
The difference between someone "exploding" at a bully, and their "Cable" snapping, is in the reaction. If it's immediate, it's an explosion, like throwing someone off a second story balcony, or working through the night to spite a teacher who is abusing their power. It's a "Cable Snap" when their mentality simply breaks, when they loose their empathy for an extended period of time, often it's a systematic destruction of their target(s) life.

I have seen bullies like this, they would send kids to hospital, parents make a huge donation to the school and the problems are left like an open wound. Once i had a good friend whom the bullies told him he either had to beat me up to prove his friendship with them or he would get a beating
I warned him, I stated you KNOW me and you know what I mean. One bully pushed him in towards me. I pulled a metal wire hidden under my belt and went upside his face nearly taking his ear off. OH MY, everyone backed off. I then waited rill each of the bullies were alone and took care of them. Years later a few of them were drunk and attacked a friend who was armed with a gun. Yup, that finally ended their reign. This kid was tortured. When he sought medical care the first time the school should have put an end to it. Had this been me in the story the night of the branding bones would have been broken or I would have lwft the school and gone to police.

OP shouldn't be condemned. The abuse OP suffered- and yes, it was abuse- is well known by psychologists to activate a kind of survival mode in the brain where empathy is suppressed, enough of that during childhood can make someone permanently psychopathic and even turn them into serial killers. Most famous serial killers were horribly abused and neglected during their childhoods. A few were simply born unable to feel empathy. OP acted as he had to to protect himself from someone who easily could have worked their way up to killing them- I had the same fear in middle school, after an attempt on my life in elementary school failed and consistent bullying then and in middle school were ignored and covered up, but I hadn't gone through nearly the abuse OP had. OP is ultimately a victim who did a drastic thing because they felt they were in danger, and honestly they were. I OP is able to forgive himself and overcome the damage. In the end, the best continuing revenge you can get OP, if you're reading this, is to live your life as well as you can for as long as you can. Wanting to pick yourself up and keep going long enough to curse or piss on their graves is a perfectly valid motivation. Don't let Blackwood ruin your life forever. You deserve a happy ending, even if it takes more time and a lot of work. Please don't give up, keep going even when it's hard!

This is on the adults. They could not have possibly been blind to the situation at hand.

I understand why he did it all too well. Had I the courage, I'd have suffered the same fate as that boy-turned-man. I hope he can forgive himself for an act that may well have saved his life, and that he can understand he's not alone.

Signed,
Another scarred survivor of an English public school bully

Finely a real pure nuclear revenge story. I cheer for the actions of op

In my opinion the bully got off light for what he did but in the end got what he deserved.
Seeing what the bully was doing it's clear he had no sense of decency or respect for anyone and people like that I think only get worse over time .
I think he did his community a great service from what he did and if found out should have been paid for his great deed.

he should forgive himself hell is something we put ourselves through. Time period aside the boarding school is the true evil for not taking a more proactive role in the protection of the children in there care. had they done so none of this would have happened.

When you enact revenge, you dig two graves. I hope wherever OP is, they find the closure and quiet they need.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with what OP did, considering all the situation AND the time period.

If you need to see this from someone, I forgive you. IN FACT, I'm a little bit down that the bullies friends didn't take a bite of the poison too, not enough to kill, just enough to inconvenience them for some days in the hospital.

I am Japanese and I was taught the it easier to heal a broken bone than to heal a broken spirit. When I was in grade school, I got in to a fight with a kid. When the teachers broke us up and was walking us to the principals office when one told me that "violence is not the answer to what happened". My answer to her was" violence is the response to violence and the a nessary force to return one to tranquility." That response came out as route because my uncle always made us repeat that phrase before training, he was a buddhist monk.

Earlier in the comments I read " with vengance you dig two graves." The person doing the vengance is never returned to the wheel of life. The victim is tormented in hell until their penance is served and returned to the wheel of life.

My opinion: Bully got what he deserved.

Well I can’t say I’m happy with the end result, but it’s not like op was out to kill this bully, but in the moment op defend himself in the only way he thought he could and in the end the bully died. At the same point it could’ve been op who would’ve ended up dead. The level of punishment op bully did to him is really horrible. Hopefully op you can find the peace you need.

Honestly the bully deserved it. Their actions were those of a monster

I had it pretty bad in elementary school, but at least I got to go home at the end of the day. I have zero doubts that I would have mentally and physically snapped and blatantly killed one of my bullies had I not been allowed to.

OP - good on you for cleaning up an oxygen thief like Blackwood. It wasn't the right thing to do, but it was the just thing to do. Good luck with the rest of your days.

Op most likely prevented a future serial killer from being set loose as an adult. Good on him, it sucks that he's still suffering so much
