In this episode Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge commemorates two anniversaries this year, the 75th anniversary of our basic law of our constitution and the 35th anniversary of the fall of the wall that used to divide the east and the western part of Germany.

The german constitution starts with article 1 "human dignity is inviolable" it places society at the center. The state serves society, not vice versa, and is guided by a number of principles in doing so. If you reflect on the ongoing negotiation processes with regard to our multilateral order, a rule based order and the role of a rule based order,let me pick out three principles that should guide our thinking and action.

The principle of democracy, the principle of the constitutional state, the rule of law, and third, the principle of the social welfare state. All three are absolutely key for a balanced order, an order, a political order, and policymaking that allows international negotiation that allows a socially just and climate stabilising approach to building sustainable futures.
