Use QGIS to create MBTiles map

preview_player
Показать описание
QGIS can be used to create an MBTiles map from a local file or online map. The map can then be used in a TrailTech Voyager Pro or smartphone app.

Trail Tech Voyager Pro will not load maps that have a space in the file name. The issue will be resolved in the next firmware release.

Note: Google satellite imagery has 20 zoom levels.

OMGosh, Thank The part on the settings was what I was missing.

Until the Trail Teach team updates the VP, make sure there are no spaces in the name you choose. Other characters may also cause it not to load on your VP.

Love my Voyager Pro. Like many riders, I want to load maps above and beyond the available Trail Tech base maps. This video implies the maps have to be relatively small and it is very technical and time consuming to create many individual maps for each place one rides. There are lots of great and powerful options creating maps with CalMaps, but what would be ideal is being able to directly load any of the many, existing state topo maps, hunting maps, etc. like one does on a Garmin device. Extremely easy to load a map, or sections of a map, on those devices. Having to literally build an MBTiles map yourself using CalMaps using very specific parameters and worry about size, memory, settings, etc. is less than ideal and time consuming since it appears one has to build many, smaller maps and load a different maps every time you ride a different area in a state rather than loading an entire state and have it always be there and at at the ready.

It would be a great upgrade for Voyager Pro to load existing Garmin-type maps as a base map. Even if that means offering two versions, and prices, of the Voyager Pro with more built in memory to store an entire states topo map, it would be worth it. But memory is extremely cheap so perhaps just boost the memory of the current version to handle an entire state worth of mapping. It would also need the ability to use of Garmin-compatible maps. There are many free, existing Garmin-compatible maps available and being able to easily load any of those onto a Voyager Pro would be a huge improvement over manually making small MBTile maps and re-loading maps each time one rides a different area. Thanks for the consideration.

Thanks a ton for this. Just getting started with custom maps for my VP and was wondering if you would be willing to walk through using a local file source in QGiS? I'm hoping to use any of the CalTopo free outputs (MBTiles are no longer free) as a local file source but not sure how to get started. Thanks!

Very grateful for the video, been trying to do the same thing with Global Mapper, a program I find pretty buggy. Is there a simple way to export in a form other than a rectangle. I'd like to export my GPX path. Thanks allot.

Hello. Thanks so much for making this! Very helpful and straight to the point! I'm using 3.22.7 and I can't seem to get QGIS to respect the extent I set by drawing a box over my map. Any thoughts would be welcome.
