For more than a century, dams have blocked fish migration on California’s second-largest river.
OA’s Matt Dibble takes us to the removal of the last of four dams on the Klamath River, a major victory for Native Americans who depend on the river.

I remember seeing a bumper sticker when I was younger “dam politicians not rivers” congrats to those involved with this. Good work.

This is THE loveliest thing I’ve seen today. Made me tear up a bit. Well deserved. Congratulations from one tribal being to another. A pebble rolling downhill gathering dirt… one can dream of the possibilities. You made it a reality.

40 years ago, this idea was thought to be impossible. Now it is happening and much education happening now will continue. This is a teachable moment for the next 50 years.

i live in far north california, towards the north of humboldt county. the rallying cry of "un-dam the klamath" has been around for as long as i can remember.

many congratulations to all of our indigenous siblings, among them the Hoopa, Yurok, and Wiyot people. thank you especially to them, but to everyone else too, who had a part in this momentous occasion. it's been a long time coming, and our activists never gave up. thank you, everyone.
