TO PLUTO [PLOUTON]

O you who dwell in the underworld’s dark halls,
Bold-hearted, in Tartarus’ lightless meadows filled with shadowed gloom,
Chthonic Zeus, scepter-bearer, graciously accept these offerings.
O Plouton, holder of earth’s keys,
Granting humanity abundance with yearly harvests.
You, who claimed the all-ruling earth, home of immortals, steadfast pillar for mortals.
You, who upholds the throne in that bleak, distant realm,
Unfathomable, breathless, cold Hades, with black Acheron supporting earth’s foundations.
You, who governs mortals through death, receiver of countless offerings,
Eubouleus, you who once abducted Demeter’s chaste daughter,
Guiding her across the sea in a four-steed chariot to the cave in Attic Eleusis, where Hades’ gates stand.
You alone were born the celebrant of deeds, sung and unsung,
Divine, king of all, holy, adorned in gold, delighted by pure acts and devout worship.
I call upon you, come merciful and joyful to your devotees.

¡Oh tú!, que habitas la sede subterránea, de corazón violento, la pradera de profunda sombra y carente de luzdel Tártaro, Zeus Ctonio, poseedor del cetro, recibe gustosamente estas ceremonias, Plutón, que posees lasllaves de toda la tierra, que enriqueces la generación de los mortales frutos del año; que obtuviste como tercer

porción la tierra reina de todo, asiento de los inmortales, fuerte sostén de los mortales; que has fijado tu truenodebajo de lugar tenebroso y lejano, el infatigable, carente de soplos, indiscriminado Hades y sombrío Aqueronte,que posee las raíces de la tierra: ¡oh tú!, que gobiernas a los mortales en razón de la muerte, que a muchosrecibes, Eubulo, que una vez desposaste a la hija de la pura Deméter y la llevaste raptada, por la llanura delponto, en carro de cuatro caballos a una cueva del Ática, en la región de Eleusis, en donde se encuentran laspuertas del Hades.Eres el único árbitro de las cosas invisibles y de las manifiestas, inspirado, señor de todo, muy sagrado, de ilustrehonra, que te alegras en venerables iniciados y en santas adoraciones: te llamo para que vengas propicio ygozoso a tus iniciados.
