Cerrone ~ Supernature 1977 Disco Purrfection Version
Показать описание
"Supernature" was Cerrone's electronic opus, a cautionary tale about people controlling too much and created his most captivating song ever. The story is that the experimented on individuals have evolved and become superior to the humans, "even God is on their side" as they trample through the night. Yeah, you better watch out! Look at you now! The song ends with the admission that the assault against humanity will never end and to give up and give in, cos they will lose anyway. The lyrics to this one are dismal and dooming, but the percolating synth lines with that funky bass turn this one into the perfect marriage of science fiction and EDM, the other worldly sounds recall "The Outer Limits" and "Twilight Zone" themes. Where Donna added sparse vocals to the electronic beats so they did not get in the way of the song, the cautionary lyrics of this one fill out the song very neatly. I have been on this electronic disco trip as of late and since "I Feel Love" remembered this one. Did you know that on January 21, 1978 this song was the #1 Disco song for four weeks! I love it, Cerrone had put more of a rock influence in his production and the final effect is astounding. The sheer syncopation and separation of the instruments drew me right into that rough oscillating synth line and I was hooked. I had fun mixing this one, is came together in ano time at all this evening. The lyrics are dark and foreboding like something Stephen King would have written, but that funky ass production totally compliments and underlines the lyrics. At the beginning of his career he was accused of copying the style of Donna Summer "Love To Love You Baby" with his porno disco "Love In C Minor", and he did. But he supercharged the beat up to 120 and he doing so, ended up with a #2 disco hit with it.. Cerrone has a great ear for music and he was partly behind the Konga's fame along with future disco producer Don Ray who created a bombastic tribal beat sound. He teamed up with producer Alec R. Costandinos and "Love In C Minor" made Cerrone a star. After displaying his amazing orchestral arrangement style with "Give Me Love" he turned to the dark side of synths for "Supernature". This song and Alec Costandinos "Romeo & Juliet" have the same keyboard bell riff, you will know it when you hear it.
