Should I ruff up the bonding edge/area on the spoiler before applying? If so what grade sandpaper? Cheers

I’ve recently purchased a used van with the barn door spoiler. Both very faded red and one slightly damaged. Once on I’m guessing there is no way of getting off with causing damage to the van.

I’ve recently bought a t6.1 with this spoiler fitted, the adhesive/method has failed and it’s loose on the ends which is now damaging the tailgate paintwork. Can anyone suggest a safe method of removing so I can refit it?
