In Germany, melting one's heart is a rather common analogy, and very much like you would accustom frozen food to room temp, "auftauen" means that you melt the barrier between strangers, start to feel comfortable and risk getting to know someone, bei rejected or "falling" (in love), being hurt and all that.

so it blew up on tiktok bc a fan posted some videos and it resonated with the fans. Zartmann actually didnt know it blew up because he was on holiday with Aaron (another great german artist) and only saw the traction it got when he returned to germany. he did not plan on releasing the song before his upcoming EP the Schönhauser EP. But because we (the fans) loved the snippet of the chorus so much he decided to release it early. and now he had his first number 1 chart hit with tau mich auf

hi i'm still relatively young (17) and have been listening to zartmann's music for a while now and i think you nailed it with your interpretation. i think i can relate to the song very well because it's not so easy to open up and be free with someone simply because you get hurt so quickly and when you find someone you can do that with it's very hard to climb over your own walls to get to that person.

Never heard of him or his songs. "Tau mich auf" is based on the ice cold, walls up, desensitised, numb, formality expressions. So a lot like melting your heart or breaking down your walls, yes.
To taw up in general usually means to enjoy live more, to get rid of that every day grey numbness, be more honest with yourself.
To taw up with someone means to lower your guard with that person, feel more comfortable with them, less formal, wanting to share your inner world with them more.
