Drifting Lyrics:
Time and space and I’m out of place Don't recognise a single face By now I should've won the race But I haven't found a home Seems to me if you don't catch that vine And swing to the next treebranch in time Years add up and you fall behind And you're left to walk alone

For I’m drifting, I’m drifting and I’m drifting And I’m drifting and I’m drifting and I’m drifting

Meet a stranger, tag along Maybe smoke a cigarette all wrong Tell a story, sing a song Lay my head where it don't belong And somehow it occurs to me That out here on the deep blue sea There are other people drifting too Maybe someday baby I'll drift into you

Maybe someday baby I'll drift into you

Called my shrink the other day Forgot what I was going to say So I lied and said I lost my way 'Cause I couldn't let him down Put my leather jacket on To play the part of Bad Boy John The brokenhearted vagabond That wandered into town

'Cause I’m drifting, I’m drifting and I’m drifting Yeah I’m drifting and drifting and drifting

Meet a stranger, tag along Maybe smoke a cigarette all wrong Tell a story, sing a song Lay my head where it dont belong And somehow it occurs to me That out here on the deep blue sea There are other people drifting too Maybe someday baby I'll drift into you

Maybe someday baby I'll drift into you

Live for the moment 'til the moment is gone Lonesome is the road I've been travelling on I go where I want and I don't miss anyone 'Cause I’m drifting

Trying to write a story but I’m stuck on a page God it's been so long, can't remember my age I’m lost 'til the minute that I step on the stage 'Cause I’m drifting

And I’m drifting

Meet a stranger, tag along Maybe smoke a cigarette all wrong Tell a story, sing a song Lay my head where it don't belong And somehow it occurs to me That out here on the deep blue sea There are other people drifting too Maybe someday baby I'll drift into you

Maybe someday baby I'll drift into you

Maybe someday baby I'll drift into you

I feel both haunted and loved by these lyrics. I hope everyone appreciates John as the generational talent he is.

This is the antithesis of Perfectly Lonely... and just so happens to be really catchy while it's at it

I love the evolution of the song even from Newark to Boston removing the pick. Love him road testing songs and letting them grow.

This song is another excellent song by John. It's obvious he wrote this about himself. I hope he finds what he is looking for.

What compelled this man to write so many deep songs....god given...dont blow it, man, dont blow it!!

This feels like the continuation of an old song he has called tracing. It has the same feeling of moving through life with everything feeling intangible and distant.

Thank you for sharing this clip with the lyrics! John Mayer has pretty much written his life in song and it's so beautiful. I cannot imagine having to grow up in the public eye as he has done. Who among us would want the world to watch us grow up? I'm seriously glad there were no cell phones when I was in my twenties. We all make mistakes growing up but don't have the added pressure of doing it while the whole world is watching. Mayer has grown into a man of integrity and honor with his talent intact.

What an amazing singer/songwriter/guitarist he is! He shares these deeply personal emotions/thoughts with us, and I know it helps so many deal with their own anxiety. If nothing else, it makes one feel not quite so alone. He is a gift to us all! And I do hope that he finds his soul mate one day. He deserves to have that kind of love in his life. (I'm 63 years old and I feel very motherly toward him!) 🙂

I'm maybe late to the party for this song, but damn, how good is this? the lyrics are pure perfection, even if this one is probably one of his most about himself, everybody can relate, I certainly see myself in some of the lyrics, I always loved his music but I felt that the last two albums were on the play safe for him, maybe because nowadays is hard being an artist and not get cancelled by fanatics but that's a long story to explain, but this, gosh, if the new album has lyrics like this It's gonna be a masterpiece, I really hope he has find the light to relove again writing perfect lyrics and making music.
