Just like with the Hylian set, the major selling point of the Soldier armor is how easy it is to upgrade and, in doing so, grants such a huge boost to defense early on. Because, let's be honest, you're gonna be able to upgrade the soldier set way before the zonite set.

I don’t think the armor is “bad”, “outclassed” is a good way of putting it. It’s an inexpensive way to help progress through some harder fights.

In BOTW the soldier's armor also had the same stats and was tied for the highest defensive clothing together with the ancient armor and the of the wild set. However, the last two also outclassed it by having useful bonuses much as the zonaite armor does in TOTK

Just so everyone knows, you can do the Royal Passage backwards if you enter through Hyrule Castle from the Observation Room metal grate. That way you don't need the opening in the Emergency Shelter.

I think the Ancient set in Breath of the Wild had the same defense as the Soldier set but you got ancient weapon proficiency. Seems like Zonaite set is a straight replacement for Ancient set.

In botw, the ancient set, the diamond circlet and the amber earrings also had a maximum defence of 28

the "Of the Wild" set did, and still does, have the same defense stats, and its not nearly as tedious to get in this game as the in BOTW. In fact I think its a less of an issue to get than the Zonaite armor set.

Hate on the soldiers armor all you want but in my opinion it still looks the absolute best with the hylian hood like a paladin sort of thing and that's why I will never abandon the soldiers armor

The Royal Guard Armour is supposed to be early game high defense armour while the Zonite armour is end game armour. The fact you got them in reverse shouldn't subtract from their intention. The Soldier armour I've used as cheap slot filler when i don't have full sets of armour.

Ancient armor also has a defence of 28. And the diamond circlet now gives attack up. And has a defence of 28 maxed out.

You can actually get access to the soldier armor before you have access to the sanctuary, in my play through I was exploring around the ruins of Castle town and what was left of the base of the castle and there is a balcony that you can see just passed the massive iron doors that'll get you access to the Royal Retreat passage or whatever it's called

If the Royal Guard set bonus is the same as it was in BotW, it does more than reduce stamina usage for charge attacks. It also reduces usage from jumping while climbing and dashing while swimming.

In defense of the Royal Guard Armor, it has mad swagger points

I haven’t been able to test it yet, but in botw, the royal guard set had hidden bonuses for swim dash and jump climb stamina up. That made it one of my favorite from the dlc.

Did you guys know the champions leathers outfit allows you to shoot your beam out of the master sword with out full hearts, try it out

I found the soldier armor by accident right when I finished Rito Village 😄 now I’m finally going back for the royal guard outfit bc it’s my favorite lookswise besides the 3 dragon outfits & the fierce deity one
