Arleigh Burke Class: The Workhorse of the USN

Показать описание
The Arleigh Burke class of destroyers are multi-mission guided missile destroyers built by the United States Navy to perform a variety of roles such as air defense, surface warfare, and antisubmarine warfare.

The Arleigh Burke class is distinguished by its advanced Aegis Combat System, which integrates radar and fire control systems to provide comprehensive air and missile defense capabilities. Furthermore, the ship's powerful propulsion system and hull design enable fast and agile maneuvering, making it a formidable opponent in surface warfare operations.

This class is equipped with a variety of weapons systems that make it a formidable opponent on the water. Some of the key weapons systems include the Mark 41 Vertical Launching System, which allows the ship to rapidly fire a wide range of missiles, including the Standard Missile family for air defense and the Tomahawk cruise missile for land attack. The ship is armed with torpedo tubes for antisubmarine warfare and a five-inch gun for surface warfare.

The Arleigh Burke class of destroyers is also equipped with Close-In Weapon Systems (CIWS) for close-range defense against incoming threats, such as missiles and enemy aircraft.

This comprehensive mix of weapons systems, advanced radar and sensory systems, and close-in defense capabilities makes the Arleigh Burke class one of the most well-rounded and effective warships in the world.

I get to build these for a living in Maine at Bath Iron Works. Very proud!

It's funny that Adm. Zumwalt spent his time fighting with Adm. Rickover over the "High-Low" plan and eventually winning, only to end up with his name attached to a ship class that was the opposite of what he fought for. The Arleigh Burke class has lasted so long because its replacement has been a major failure.

The FFG-7 Oliver Hazard Perry Class with originally called “Zip-Top Ships.” Use them once - throw them away - but actually they proved quite tough in actual use.

The Spruance Class of DDs were originally panned when they first came out. They appeared bereft of weapons and sensors. Later Phalanx CIWS, Sea Sparrow Terminal Missile Systems were added - and the ships became more capable.

The CG-47 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers are another example of The USN getting it sorta of right. Originally - there were 27 of these ships built CG-47 through CG-73. The first five of these, CG-47 through CG-51, had MK-26 twin arm missile launchers. The remaining 22 had MK-41 VLS. The first 5 were retired early due to the fact they had limited upgrade potential. The remaining 22 ships - which The Navy has long sought to retire - are finally being slowly decommissioned. Each ship has 122 VLS Cells - so there decom is a major loss of missile capacity. But the ships are old - and were completed on a Spruance Class Hull - meaning they are quite cramped and constrained.

Remember that the Spruance class was a worthy predecessor

Spent 4 years of my life on one of these working on the weapons systems. It's not totally incorrect but a lot of detail is left out or graphics are misleading, for good reason.

Was on the USS STOUT DDG 55. Felt untouchable in our ship. Miss it dearly.

There’s no video about the USS Port Royal Cruiser.

Great platform and when the final units are completed there will 99 total vessels I believe.

My claim to fame on was at the Lockheed Martin facility in south Jersey testing the Aegis Baseline 10 phases of the combat system. Pretty cool.

Workhorse of the USN they say. Truth of the matter is ALL of our Destroyers fit that intro. This Country has been Blessed with great fighting ships, BUT the SOUL of those Ships are the American Sailors who Man them. 🫡❤

Many pictures were of none Arleigh Burke ships and weapon systems. Apparently you really like the RAM missile system. For an amateur presentation it was okay, with only a minimal amount of inaccuracies.

please, remove the "typing sound" in the next videos (or at least mix it at a lower volume) because if you listen to this with headphones those sounds are quite disturbing. Apart from that, interesting video!
