Toyota Tundra Tacoma 2007+ Idling High? Idling Low? Quickly reset or relearn idle No fluff video

Did you disconnect or kill your battery?
Did you clean your throttle body?
Are you idling high or low or rough?

May work for other 2007 and up Toyota models

If you start it and it shuts down, restart it, warm it up, then run this procedure

***Update: If the procedure in the video didn’t work for you try this:

once the engine is fully warmed up turn off all accessories anything that could put a load on the alternator.

Then turn the engine off.

Cycling the ignition key to on 2x and starting it on the 3rd cycle.

Engage the E-brake and set it in drive for 5-7 minutes.

Sometimes takes 2-3 attempts

He reported RPM's are 750 in park and
650 in drive.

This procedure will allow the ecm to learn how to control your engine idle properly again

It can be completed within 15 minutes without special tools.

You may need green scotchbrite or a scrubbing sponge, and carburetor/tb cleaner or brakleen/electronics cleaner

spray on sponge, not directly into the intake, and wear eye protection

be careful/gentle with the throttle butterfly, opening and closing it.

Short, to the point, no music, no long intro, no b.s, hope this helps

I watched at least 10 videos before seeing yours…..no help!
The key to your video is the mention of 300k miles.

I have a 2007 tundra with 376k miles and just replaced the battery. Idle was so bad that it would stall before I could even make it through the idle reset steps.
I took your advice and cleaned the throttle body. Didn’t think it would work but my next step would have been a mechanic.
It totally worked! AMAZING!

Im an experienced mechanic and had to come to this video to solve the high idle on my 2010 tundra after cleaning the throttle body. Drove it around a few drive cycles and it was idling 200rpm more than it should. Tried to used my $3500 snap on scanner to find an idle reset, no beuno. Found this video, tried it, and bam back to normal. Thank you very much.

Just putting this out there as a root cause. I have a 2007 Tundra 5.7 L and the idle was high and drifting all over. Eventually threw a code P0553 Power steering Pressure sensor. Turned out the sensor was good, but the ground wire for the sensor was broken and cracked from engine heat over the years. I repaired the wire, cleared the code, but idle was still high and wandering. This reset procedure fixed it even after the code was cleared out of the ECM. thanks for the video. 👍

Thank you, after replacing the battery to my tundra it was idling very low, I was about to call my mechanic thinking that the alternator went bad. I was checking some videos on how to replace the alternator and found yours. I just did pedal steps didn't even have to clean the throttle and it worked at 3rd try.

Have a 2012 Tundra 5.7, did an alternator swap and all was fine for fine for a month...then one morning it got so bad it wouldn't even idle. It would just fire off on 4-5th attempt, surge then die. I wasn't able to "warm up" but followed your vid on reset. I went from failing to idle and dying to perfect idle! I ran thru some RPMs in park drove a few feet forward and back, stayed running, no surging and returned to proper idle. Thanks for the vid, you got me rolling again.

I did the idle procedure a couple times in a row and then it finally worked after I did it about the 4th time and I let it go for 15 minutes. I own 4 Toyota's and this Lexus is the only one that took this long

When i drove it and let go of the throttle the engine would die on its own. I replaced the alternator and still same thing, i noticed the rpm was very low on idle and the voltage would slowly drop as the engine warmed up. When i revved up the engine and held it, the voltage would go back up to normal. It just needed a Throttle cleaning and it went back to idling normal and normal voltage, thanks for the video!

Just changed the fuel pump on my 2002 Toyota Sequoia and my idle was at 2000rpm. Disconnected the battery terminals for 30 minutes. After reconnecting, started the car and my idle is perfect at 300-400 rpm. Save me the trip to the local shop and definitely money. Thank you.

tried it today 11-20-22 and it worked like a champ. Knocked the idle down buy about 250 rpm, and now it's pretty much where it was before. Oh and by the way I did have throttle body and injector service so that's where the higher idle came from, I think.

I tried the negative battery disconnect and that didn't fix the high idle but this trick did! I'm guessing the throttle position sensor resets. Makes sense! 🙄😬😁Thank you!

I will try this. My 2007 Tacoma shut off in the street. It cranked after 30 minutes of sitting but 10 MPH is her top speed. Idles really low
