🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 My first scottish lentil soup didn't quite go to plan so I’ve taken on board all of the comments and here’s version two, of a traditional Scottish Lentil Soup and hopefully, this time, the internet won’t hate me as much.

Nearly there Scott! Onions, not leeks. Most folk boil the ham hough in with all the ingredients for more flavour too and its less faffing about. But looks good.

I tried this recipe and was afraid the people at the potluck were going to lick the pot clean! Needless to say there was none left which is the greatest compliment a cook can receive. Walloper???

Your recipes are always winners in our house Scott. I made a properly bastardised version of this last week using chicken stock and leftover slow cooked chinese pork (another of your recipes), instead of ham. It went down a treat, thanks 😋

I really liked the first recipe you posted. Perhaps you could repost it as a quick, easy modern version. And suitable for vegetarians if they use a vegetable stock. I thought it excellent and have made three double lots and frozen loads……my mother-in-law asked me for the recipe this evening as she also thinks it’s excellent and she’s as Scottish as they come.

For economy: cheap supermarket misshapen, bacon offcuts work very well; although I recommend straining the pieces out after making the stock, and trimming the good meat off to return to the pot later, and discarding the fat.

Beware, as a mix of smoked, unsmoked, and brined cuts, the stock can be salty, so adjust any additional seasoning accordingly

I'm from London. When in Glasgow I was asked if I wanted some Tablet, which to me was fudge, but apparently the Scottish Tablet is different, so I'm thinking a video of how Tablet is made would be good.

Is your turnip the same as a swede? It looks kind of yellow like a swede? Many thanks in advance 😊

Right ingredient but far too thick for my liking, need more liquid to dip your plain bread in and never ever a stock cube my highland mother would turn in her grave if I used a stock cube. Put some ham in the soup but have most of it with fried cabbage as main meal.

Going back to Glasgow to see family always includes a steaming hot pot of lentil soup & a piece! Then one of the family will always make a beef sausage, meat & mince stew which always go down well at dinner(& tastes even better for breakfast the next day)😉

Well I preferred the original recipe, but them I am south of the boarder and vegan, so suppose it would be a winner for me

😄
