The shields cant deflect lazers, that causes a big atomic level explosion. But projectile bullets like the maula pistol are deflected.

And Paul's not the Kwisatz Haderach because Jessica "took spice" when she was pregnant with him - he's the Kwisatz Haderach because of centuries of genetic manipulation by the Bene Gesserit + training him in the Bene Gesserit way + exposure to the spice on Arrakis. Alia, Paul's sister, will be exposed to the Water of Life (aka spicy worm vomit) as a fetus and that has all sorts of consequences.

Paul has multiple visions, showing possible futures. In one, Jamis is his friend, others where Jamis kills him. This is an important plot point, and I'm SO happy Villeneuve focused on it. Without spoiling Part 2, Paul's visions culminate in him needing to take extreme measures to see/have control over the future.

Very cool video. But it's more than 10k years in the future. The 10191 date is after the Butlerian Jihad, which took place about 11k years in our future. So, Dune is closer to 22k years. Can I just say, I love Doug!

Jamis (the guy who Paul killed) is not his spirit guide. Paul sees multiple paths in the future, he was dreaming of an alternate path where he didn't kill Jamis and they had become friends.

also want to point out that the movie is great but this one scene bothered me. In the book Jamis is butt hurt Paul was able to overpower him when he ran away, embarrassed a scrawny kid tripped him. So Jamis challenges Paul. Jessica was ready to mess Jamis shit up all mama bear style, but the customs said it has to be Paul for he was the one challenged. It just seems weird, (possibly sexist?) they switched this up. In the book it was a big moment, Jessica had to trust Paul to take care of himself, and then after Pauls first kill she yelled at him "How does it feel to kill!" in an attempt to shock empathy into him to ensure he didn't become numb to killing or worse, enjoy it. It's my fav scene in the book and it was one of only a few scenes that were cringly flubbed in the movie which was overall great.

2:55 - OMG, is this video trolling us? Lady Jessica did NOT take spice while she was pregnant with Paul - she takes the Water of Life while pregnant with his little sister, Alia, later in the book.
