and the problem with kindle is that you don't truly own the book. Their terms dictate that they can take abook away like they did with that book 1984

Since Kindle came out, I'd been saying anytime you buy a physical book it should come with a download of the digital version. I would love a digital library but not for the same price as a physical library.

I prefer to read on paper than on a screen. Reading words on a screen over a long time hurts my eyes.

Hard cover is usually much more expensive than paperback/softcover, sometimes 2x-5x more so. If I really like a book I'll get the hard cover, otherwise I prefer the cheaper softcover so I can get more books.

In fairness, the ability to read digital copies in my Google Books app across all my devices and anywhere/anytime I can log into my Google account is pretty neat. If you could only put the digital copy on one machine or whatever I'd agree with you but tenish bucks for a digital copy that will never degrade and be available across all my Android devices for as long as Google exists, theoretically, is pretty neat. That being said, I still prefer paperbacks in general but the convenience of being able to pull out my phone and read any book or comic or whatever in my Google Books App is pretty awesome.

I am not a fan of Sanderson's books, but I do appreciate how he treats his fans/readers.

I think that those who read the books digitally and then decide they want the physical copies are more likely to purchase the hardcovers while those who simply want to read the book physically are more likely to get the paperbacks.

In particular, those who want to read the printed books might prefer the mass market paperbacks? For example, I'm currently reading the Stormlight Archive and I was able to get all 4 books (not counting the new one, yet) in mass market paperback form for literally 30 dollars. I'm definitely going to get rather the other paperbacks or, maybe, the hardcovers for the series but the mass markets were a great way to just read the books without worrying at all for any damage that might occur to them.

(Also, seeing all the comer books lined up on my shelf is fantastic!)

The main reason I mostly read digital is because I live in a non English speaking country, that's not big on sci-fi or fantasy, so most of the books I like don't get translated, and the English books are impossible to find in shops. I could order them from abroad, but the e-book is just more convenient

It’s dumb that I have to wait a year to get the paper back instead of getting hardcover on release.

I tend to go for paperback not only for the price but also because they are way easier to carry around and more comfortable to read

This is like watching a cooper and a wainwright talk about the job market in 1806.

We need to keep the same energy with Bluray that paperbacks and vinyl are getting

Sanderson's new book is priced as £15 in Kindle UK, which is more expensive than any other new release, usually it's like £12. I now prefer reading on a Kindle, but the price for new books is a bit steep

Hey, that's an interesting point, to buy an expensive hardcover and get the e-book or at least at a discounted price. I think that would encourage an increase in sales.

I love Mass Market Paperbacks but they’re not really making them anymore! They’re all big and $20 *pout*

It's not 'never' going away, people still want the physical thing for now, wait until we get through another 10 generations.

Yes but I like the kindle scribe cause I use it for work and then I have my book on downtime. It’s too easy but I always buy the paperback for the wall so he’s right

Maybe it's different with new releases, but for "older" books ebooks are cheaper than paperbacks 99% of the time. I check when I buy a book because I always buy the cheapest one.

I'll always take the paperback and I'll often take the cheapest paperback and I'm not sorry. More is more sometimes, and my money likes to buy the kind of more that goes farther.
