I am a 40y old veteran and still cry everytime I hear this song. A lot of the things he says I apply to my fallen comrades or friends/relatives who died. I wish I could express my feelings like this guy to pay honour to them. Beautiful reaction, love!

Anyone who has lost a loved one wishes, they had the ability to express their feelings in such a form, knowing that no matter how much it may reflect feelings, it only begins to convey the intensity of the pain.

I love how there is a brief pause and then the last verse starts "Ich geh hier nicht weg, hab meine Frist verlängert" (I not leaving, I prolonged my stay). As I can imagine this reflects his story: After the death of his wife and brother, he withdrew for a while. And I think you just want everything to end then or to sleep for a long time. The last verse sounds to me as if he has lived through it, overcome it and is now determined to go outside and start again.

You should check out the lyrics in the video. The translation is quite good, but some things got a bit lost in the translation ... "Ich bin zu träge um aufzugeben" - I'm too lazy to give up - I feel its more like "I'm too tired to give up" .... but that are some simple words who could be discussed. When he sings "Wir haben den Regen gebogen" (we've bowed the rain), its a metaphor for the rainbow. He is playing with the words and it goes so deep.

Herbert Grönemeyer is a poet and a preserver of the German language. His lyrics are difficult to translate in order to convey the poetry in his songs, it doesn't just touch your heart, it tears a hole in it.

Herbert was the first to sing about feelings in Germany, "Planes in the Stomach." It was released on February 4, 1985 as the third and final single from the album 4630 Bochum, on which the song was originally released in May 1984. At the time, the song wasn't particularly successful in the charts - the single reached number 44.

Gabalier is an austrian Singer/Songwriter (the song is in austrian-german dialect), he's a mediocre musician, but wrote an absolute fantastic song about the loss of beloved people! His sister and father committed suicide within a short period of time...
