Rimpa Siva was a child prodigy, an amazing talent who defied gender roles to become a role model of the tabla at a young age. Siva was all of 5 when she listened to her father, Swapan Siva, teaching all the boys who came to their residence to learn this art. He had initially expected his daughter to take to the sitar or vocal music. But within a year, when he noticed the clarity and power with which she began reproducing all the difficult lessons on the tabla, he began teaching her without a doubt.

You might be asking, why is Darbar giving me a free trial? We are passionate about Indian classical music and have the largest online archive of videos - we want everyone to experience the bliss of Indian classical music. This is one of those of things that can’t be put into words, this is something that must be experienced. Even if you decide to leave after this trial, that is perfectly fine.

In closing, the best part of your membership is that you can feel 100% confident that you are supporting Indian classical music and musicians through a registered non-profit organisation.

More about the Artist:
She was discovered by the Darbar team at the Saptak, an annual music festival held in India during winters. In this concert, she commences her solo with a long ‘peshkar’ transposed over a 16-beat teental, producing each and every ‘bol’ with crispness and clarity. The consummate ease and spontaneity with which she takes the peshkar to a climax and then launches into the performance is stunning.

Siva gives a brilliant and fluid performance. Her dexterity marks far above anyone of her generation and her extraordinary control over speed and execution is one-of-a-kind. Each moment of her recital is sparked with intensity and remarkable focus which pulls her listeners into her music and takes them through an immersive experience.

Musicians:
Rimpa Shiv (tabla, Farukhabad gharana)
Sandeep Mishra (sarangi)

Some people tried to spread a myth that she has only speed not clarity, , I think this video is a solid reply to them.. actually we are even never closed to them even not one percent, , but we have internet we have YouTube and we are judging one lifetime efforts of an artist... because thats very simple, , you dont have to work hard to pass judgement on others..she is an extremely talented tabla player with enough world-class clarity and huge bayan control and un beatable speed, she should be a icon for girls..

I am also a tabla player. But I know how much practice and dedication needs to be this type of tabla player.

Sandeep Mishra is one of the best musicians with whom I've ever had the pleasure of playing! Absolute monster on the sarangi! Genius performer! I know he's not the focus here, but I was super happy to have stumbled across this because my memories of working with him are so fond. What a great video! Thanks YouTube algorithm! You got it right this time! :)

I love Indian music and this tabla solo is amazing ... I don't understand the technicalities, but all the sounds that can come from two drums are staggering. I love this so much
