Resident Rules of Golf expert Fergus Bisset joins Golf Monthly editor Neil Tappin to discuss the situations where you can practice on the golf course and perhaps more importantly, where you can't practice to ensure you don't incur any avoidable penalty shots! The Rules of Golf can sometimes feel confusing and complicated, so hopefully this video explains the Rules of Golf in a way that makes them easier to understand.

Rule #6. When you hit your shot and doesn't go the way you wanted, then you decide to drop another ball just to see what it could have been even though you weren't going to count was told by a rules person with the USGA that round is nulified.

What if I were to hit an 80 yard wedge into the hole in matchplay and drop another ball down, clearly stating that I would just like to hit another one in to see if I am able to play it better, purely out of interest ?

Would this incur a penalty?

Can you practice your bunker shot (no ball) after you have played your shot? (The swing I should have made?)

But why do putting practise green and on course putting green feel different in the first place?

so if you tee up a ball and hit it for practice, it's a two stroke penalty, but if you shank one out of bounds, it only costs you one stroke... somehow I don't see too many people trying to get away with that, though.
