Honda CB1000R - Final Thoughts - Lings Motorcycles

Final ride on the Honda CB1000R. A very nice bike that just didnt set my soul on fire. Very hard to criticise but the looks and feel just lacking something and I don’t know what. It seemed very Germanic in that it did everything well but nothing more. It is the work colleague who has never had a day of sick, arrives 1 minute before work and leaves 1 minute after work. It does only what is required and nothing less. I guess it’s a bit boring. Well that’s what I thought.

Sounds nice, but then many bikes do. Not struck on the styling, not keen on this fashion of short fat pipes. To me one thing stood out in all the videos you did was the sense of needing to twist that throttle. I'm not saying you necessarily felt the need, but I felt like you felt like the need 😲 ..rabbit hole... it's like ordering steak, chips, onion rings, tomato and peas and only being allowed to eat the peas! That's the big difference in a bike like that versus a Bertie or a Myrtle, on those you can feel at ease just trundling along.

Now I've said that I'll end up with a ZZR 1100 🤣

Think you have been very fair on the review, we can’t all like the same things (looks wise). It weighs the same as a 650 Interceptor BTW. If you took a load of CB1000R owners and put them on RE 350 Classics and said off you go try that probably some would be mightily unimpressed. It’s just how it is.

The Honda looks nice and is silky smooth and refined. Too smooth and refined. Just lacks the X Factor

Like most modern bikes it's hard to find fault, it's down to personal taste really....

Totally agree regarding the speedometer, not a fan of them. On the 2018 MT07, it was quite small, and positioned at a strange angle. When the sun was behind, the reflection blinded you, which wasn’t good, but you couldn’t even see what speed you were doing. I did try and make a bracket to change the angle more towards the rider, which did work to a point. The 2018 Tracer 900 one was positioned slightly better, but again, in the sunshine, it was hard to read. Also not keen on the all black stealth colour scheme. Nice summing up.

Still going to get a classic or cruiser I think but am sure the Honda is brill. Waiting on a chin mount! (Ordered in Uk but argh shipped from abroad).

So filming can start soon I hope.
