Guy fits a friggin novel in 3 minutes and what sounds like basically one friggin chord ... bet he knows how to make friggin perfect biscuits too .... all I know is I overwork mine ... songs *and* biscuits and neither end up digestible ... guy's a treasure

"He was sweet and soft, shied away from the inside fastballs and died doing life without parole" is literal poetry. So much emotion, nostalgia, sadness, and hope packed into one phrase. Honestly makes me emotional every time he sings it.

Like all Jason's songs they need to simmer a bit before they can be fully digested. Greatest song writer of our time!

Played this in my house last night and the neigbors threw a brick through my window to hear it better.

When the name of the song popped up on new releases for me on Spotify I almost rolled my eyes. I never thought it would be one of the best songs l've ever heard. I know it doesn’t matter to anyone reading this but I listen to a lot of music including most everything from Jason. I interpret the title as not everything that is passed down as common knowledge is right or true. A gateway into the deep topics of the verses. He is truly one of the best songwriters of this time. I use a little soap with my chain mail scrubber on my Stargazer cast iron. Because I want it to be clean when I cook for my wife, baby and myself. The world can be cruel it’s ok to question things now and then.

Jason, your viewpoint coupled with your talent is everything that is right about this world. We need love and forgiveness, patience and commitment. Honesty. I'm glad you are here to remind us.

“The writer’s job is not only to create something beautiful, but to create something beautiful that illuminates ugly truths.” - Viet Thanh Nguyen

Have a young daughter and teared up more than once on my drive to work today. Thank you, Jason, for reminding us of what it means to be alive.

The economy of words and the bright and dark pictures he paints are nothing short of excellent. He is on levels of lyricism not touched since Jackson Browne. He is poingnant... he is pure.

Just when you think he can't get any better as a writer.

One of the best songs of 2023 regardless of genre, and maybe one of the best written songs of Isbell's storied career. Magnificent

"She found love and it was simple as a weathervane, but her own family tried to kill it." What a killer final line. I don't know how he keeps doing it. Just an amazing songwriting fountain coming from Jason Isbell

I grew up in a town of 330 people in northeast Nebraska. Every person who lived/still lives there needs to hear this song.

What’s incredible about Jason is - Not only is he one of the greatest songwriters of our time, he’s in the upper echelons of guitarists and vocalists. His slide solo on Children of Children BURNS!

We are so lucky to be living in a time when Jason Isbell is releasing new songs. Tell your grandkids.

This is a contender for Jason's best song IMHO, which is saying quite a lot. The man is simply operating on another level.

How can anyone be so lost as to believe people don't have souls? This song took me to the pemiere movie of my childhood to present. I could feel my soul waking up. Bless you.

It's like William Faulkner and John Prine sat down and wrote a song together.
