Novation Launchpad Pro 64 Pad Grid Performance Instrument for Ableton

I got the first Launchpad wanting to play project files since I already have Ableton Live Suite.
When I opened it, it looked to be in mint condition but every time I plugged it in it kept freezing and becoming unresponsive after pressing a few buttons, and the only way I could do anything about it was to unplug it and plug it back in again.
Then there were other times when it would supposedly link to Live but then wouldnt go into User 1 mode or show that its active. The only responses I could get from the Launchpad...
