Flying Long Range FPV on the coldest day of winter!

Finally a clear day for flying Long Range FPV in the mountains. Only problem is it's also the coldest temperature I've ever tried to fly in.

There's always a trade off with weather lol it's the bugs chewing on our ears or the cold working it's way into our fingers. But that rush you get when video gets sketchy makes it all worth it!

You are right. I made this winter a LIPOwarmBAG out of some car baby bottle heater element + bec + 2 XT60 to use it with my portable charger and powerbank pack. Frozen lipo/liion = insta sag even its a molycell.

Good rule of thumb when estimating temperature at higher elevations. As you change elevation, temperatures will change about 2 degrees C per 300 meters elevation. I've used this estimate as a skier and bush worker and it is surprisingly accurate.

Amazing flight! 👍🔥👏 I’ve seen some professional uas with temperature sensors on the cells for higher altitude monitoring where the air temperature is cold

I know one option is to have them in a heated bag, but they would get cold when you fly. So why not keep them heated as you fly have heated wrap around the batteries or have a heated element between the batteries. You could use a RC switch to turn it off and on.

I found that the most difficult part of flying in cold weather was finger warmth. Quad and gopro Batteries i keep warm in a insulated cooler with warm packs until last minute Keeping the fingers on the sticks warm is difficult and eventually I get too cold and must land.
