Top 10 Best Original Xbox Games

The Xbox is now 20 years old, and so what better time to take a fresh look back at Microsoft's first console and remember its best games. There were many incredible ones despite the machine enjoying just a four-year lifecycle, and we've ranked our top 10 here from a team, including IGN executive editor Ryan McCaffrey, who gamed through it while working at Official Xbox Magazine.

"Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction" deserves an honorable mention. That game was literally GTA in a warzone (North Korea), and one of Xbox's early open world, do anything you want, how you want game that to this day is still unrivaled even by Rockstar, standards. It spawned two sequels of varying quality, but It's also backwards compatible with Series X/S and Xbox One, so give it a shot.

20 year anniversary for the OG Xbox. The American company finally entered the gaming competition guns blazing (with Sony / Nintendo). Super soldier Masterchief, giant mechs, Tom Clancy games, star wars, RPGs

Kotor, Republic commando, Halo CE, Halo 2, Mech assault, Splintercell, Rainbow 6, Fable, Elders rolls Morrowind. Glorious

Project Gotham Racing 2 should be on this list imo. But still a great list. Splinter cell chaos theory is still to this day one of my all time favorite games.

Panzer Dragoon Orta. Still one of the most beautiful games ever made. Play it on Xbox One X and thank me later.

I still truly hope that mechassualt 1&2 will get a remaster one day! That was one of my absolute favorites with Halo! Both made you feel like a absolute badass!

I bought an Xbox based on Fable's promise. Before it came out (and massively disappointed with it's shallow, linear gameplay) I stumbled across a little game called Morrowind which changed the trajectory of my gaming life.

Midnight Club 2 was a great game. One of my favorites.

Both Mechassault and Mechassault 2 Lone Wolf are outstanding games on the Xbox. Definitely worth an honorable mention at the very least. I'd also love to see a sequel to Crimson Skies High Road to Revenge.

Ohh man!!! I didnt get the Xbox when it came out til a year later!! I was on Sony's console. But man, i remember finally getting the console and of course, Halo!! I havent looked back since!!

I had so many of these games. In my memory I wasn't much of a gamer then but apparently I still bought a lot of games. Morrowind was obviously the best. Jade Empire too. I'd play a Crimson Skies reboot tbh.
