The Mongol commanders were effective tacticians, they would feint a retreat and then ambush their pursuers. They did it SO MANY times its ridiculous. Also, virtually their entire force was cavalry. Usually in ancient armies, cavalry was only a support wing manned by the elite. This gave the Mongols unprecedented mobility, they could deploy, redeploy, withdraw, retreat before their enemies could even form up. And wtf is joe going about America learning the Mongols? Its rome that we should learn from. They debased their currency by lowering precious metal content to mint more coins ( inflation of a fiat currency), they borrow money to support a massive military budget, they kept fighting wars both externally and internally constantly, and by the end they dropped their traditional roman values that kept their society together for 1000 years. We have nothing to learn, we are already at the collapse stage...good lord

Fun fact: Genghis Khan learnt war strategies from ants attacking other ant colonies and would apply the same tactics in his battles

That's the lesson for America to learn: burning bodies shot from catapults. Joe, are you writing this down?

It’s worth mentioning that The Khan was cruel as hell when invading but his governing policies were actually extremely fair and the economy he made places apart of was incredibly prosperous compared to his competitors, thus causing most provinces to surrender immediately and go under his control

The Mongols are the only ones who have been able to defeat Russia in winter on their own territory. General Subutai a brilliant mind, as much as his leader the Khan.

What Joe talked about wasn't new. Ghenghis Khan appointed Generals based on merit alone, and didn't force any religion upon those he conquered. He appointed local administrators who spoke the language, understood the culture, and could make educated decisions about law. He also secured public roads, which actually opened opportunities for his subjects they didn't have before, assuming they survived.

Each war, each battle even, fought by Genghis Khan was different. It’s a wild ride to actually sit down and study what happened. Genghis is quite possibly the greatest warrior to ever live.

It wasn't in their tactics, but their organization and leader that made them so strong. Ghengis Khan united the Mongols like no one had before, creating the most powerful army in a divided world.

It’s also extremely interesting how they hunted. They had so much food because they would essentially have a line of horses miles long pushing wildlife into a confined space. Deer, camels, rabbits, wolves, it didn’t matter. Once the got them into the space they would surround them and slaughter a good amount of the animals, leaving around a 1/8th, or close to it, of each type so the population wouldn’t collapse and could bounce back. They would kill hundreds to thousands of animals when doing this.

Here's a list.

The resilience of the people. -the Mongolian were hardy incredibly tough steppe people that learned how to use a 75kg draw bow from the ages of 9 or 13. They drank horse blood and stale milk which allowed for a fucked up protein shake to be drunk on long journeys. They barely washed making their immune systems beyond that of many other people's and being highly involved in tribal conflict leading up to their unification they were not bothered by killing at all.

Horses. -The Mongolians had arguably the largest advantage of any military could have in there time period. The entirety of their army consisted of highly trained long range cavalry warriors. Mongolians are a culture of horses. Both for eating and riding. They learned how to aim a highly effective bow whilst at full gallop with various techniques. It was told that a warrior could hit a snipe (small agile bird) with his bow while it was in mid air. Hense the name snipe er. Sniper.

Leadership. Ghengis's leadership was revolutionary where as other armies leaders throughout the world was basically selected through birth right at that time. For example the royalty and nobles only had horses, good armour, weapons and tactics. The WHOLE of the Mongol horde had this. Also ghengis entrusted leadership only to those who showed competence. He allowed ascension through ranks by talent and usefulness altho today this seems obvious. In those days ignorant royals wanted so much to denote they were better than everyone they legitimately hobbled their armies.

Tactics, fained flight, racist propaganda, spy mastery, retreating assaults, some of the first instances of biological and psychological warfare. Ghengis adopted tactics that could be argued to be superior and more effective than generals such as Julius Caesar, Napoleon or even Alexander. Ghengis read the art of war very well it seems. Even revolutionising sun Sus advice to avoid siege battles. Opting to lure enemies from their gates and walls by pretending to be unorganized panicked and incompetent. He would launch rotting diseased corpses over battlements and cause infection and plague to run rampant. Sometimes on fire to cause chaos. He would blockade trade routes and exits to ensure starvation and lack of resources inside the walls. This is a force that shies away from nothing to achieve its goal.

Their lack of mercy. Mountains of human skulls, quotas for beheadings. The Mongolians were brutal to those who resisted them they did not seem to have PTSD from the acts of torture and butchery they committed on a daily bases. Infact they almost were apathetic according to sources. This makes a highly effective fighting force. Modern western soldiers have to be rotated out for fear of psychological damage. These guys did not care if they killed women, children or puppies. They simply did.

To sum up. Mongolians really and legitimately do NOT fuck around
