It's okay to not clean on some days and leave all the mess. But if the house gets this messy everyday then we should start teaching our kids to take care of their stuff. My mom told us to keep the toys where they were before we started playing with them. She didn't beat us or anything but she made sure we knew about our little responsibilities.

I get it. Depression and anxiety aren’t a joke. That being said, being in a messy house actually makes it worse

Give those kids a few chores; it would be good for them to learn how to pick up after themselves and that mommy isn’t their personal maid. You can bond over getting the house clean together.

There is a difference between messy, dirty & filthy!! A dirty house makes me depressed!!!

This is not normal as she suggests. Her kids need to learn how to take things out and then put them away again. There’s nothing ok about such a mess.

I can imagine what an incredible relief it would feel if this family purged some of these belongings from their personal space. Then there would be less to manage and the mess wouldn’t feel so overwhelming. Took me a long time to accept that for myself.

I really appreciate her bravery. I had a horribly messy apartment for years, I would also attribute it to mental health issues. Now for years I’ve been quite tidy and I do feel like it is part of my mental health recovery to be tidy, but I also don’t have kids. I respect anybody that tries share difficult sides of themselves. It helps balance out this unhealthy version of reality we get through the media. I’m rooting for this woman!

An African momma would never tolerate this. From a young age my mom used to remind us that she’s not our maid so we learned to clean up after ourselves and we too were 4 kids. We would NEVER dare to even leave clothes on the floor. It’s time to set rules in that house.

I deal with depression and anxiety and not having it all together most of the time, so thank you Ma'am.

Sending love and light to this woman. Depression is like trying to walk with a ton of bricks on your back. One thing that helped me from feeling overwhelmed was to make a to do list before going to bed and focus solely on that list the next day. Put kids on a schedule, with allotted play time and make sure they stick to it. Bedtime is concrete because you have to have time for yourself especially since you are carrying everything.

Systems! I always felt buried underneath the weight of constant dishes/ laundry/ etc until I discovered the fly lady cleaning system . It's a brilliant way of over time decluttering/ and creating sustainable systems and routines of cleaning that actually make it doable, not overwhelming and its even fun 🤣 my heart goes out to anyone who feels overwhelmed by the mess and chaos of their home and when battling mental loads it definitely affects your living space . ♥️ Just wanted to share something that has worked for our family, hope it blesses someone.

A few clothing hampers would go a long way and teaching the children to put away their belongings.

If your children are over the age of 8, they should be helping. Their old enough to put things up and be delegated simple chores. Depression or not. This isnt normal. Maybe working outside of the home will be more motivating and lessen the depression. I suffered postpartum and went back to work and it helped, so much.

The dirty floor and clothes on the floor is more than just one day of letting things go, that’s a hard “NO” for me. There’s a difference between messy and dirty, that house is dirty. Sorry, just being honest.

Come on seriously 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I suffered from depression for years and my house never looked like that. My house was always messy but in a neat way 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I never had crap like that all over my house and I raised my 3 kids alone and worked 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't agree with you. I am sorry.
Seeing this alone, am already having a mental meltdown.

She taught her kids this. As a child there was nothing out of place in my house. Us kids were taught to respect what we had and to keep order. It starts from infancy. Most people are having children when they are not mentally prepared to do so. Then the children become a mess themselves never being taught the right way to live
