This is what my mom would make for me on a cold night #shorts #comfortfood #easyrecipe #taro #sago #tapioca #recipe

✨RECIPE✨
1. Peel & dice 1.5 taro
2. Boil for 20 min or until fork tender
3. Drain the water out and mash the taro (it’s ok to leave chunks)
4. Mix in 1 can coconut milk and 1 drop ube extract for color (optional)
5. Add cooked sago. *To prepare sago, boil 1/2 cup sago for 10 min and then let rest for 5 min with lid on
6. Add sugar to taste (I used ~5oz rock sugar)
7. Stir on medium heat until sugar is dissolved and enjoy! 😋

Have you tried this taro tapioca dessert before? It's one of my favorite comforting desserts and it brings back so many memories 💜 It's also super easy to make, the written recipe is in the description box!

its somehow really comforting reading the comments and seeing that there's a version of this in other countries that everyone grew up eating as a child

I love seeing people from so many different cultures saying they make this food in their culture as well. This tends to happen a lot with food. The same foods are eaten by wildly different cultures. I guess food is really is the universal language!

This is similar dessert in my country. My mom used to cook this for me every weekends. But she already passed away, and this video remind me those beautiful days with my mom.

It's quite similar to Binignit---a Filipino local dessert but ours has more ingredients. But for sure, it tastes the same😁

Ok we have a similar dessert in india, sago is known as sabudana in India and we have sabudana kheer(kheer is basically a dessert in which some grain or solid is boiled in milk), we don't use taro, we use regular milk, regular sugar, and we use cardamom, and dry fruits like almonds pistachio and raisins, it's looks pretty similar to what u saw in the video but without any chunks, we eat it cold and warm, (I hate raisins too)

In Latin and Hispanic countries we have something similar, less soupy, called arroz con leche. It's basically sugar, milk, and rice cooked in a pot until thickened. Served with cinnamon on top, delicious. I'm excited to try out this recipe!

We have something similar too! it’s made with sago, jaggery, coconut milk and flavored with a pandan leaf and it’s the same texture as this. Awesome how foods from different cultures can be so similar!

There are similar desserts like this in my country, Cambodia. Sometimes we add sticky rice instead of sago (we don't usually mash the taro) or add ube instead of taro.
💜Thank you for your recipe. I'll try mashing the taro next time.

I’m from Germany, but I found a really cute restaurant in my area, it has something similar, and it’s soooo goood! It’s my go-to when I feel really depressed! It’s like a hug in a bowl

So interesting seeing sago/sagu being cooked differently! In Brazil, as far as I know it's traditional in the south, we cook the "grains" of sagu in red wine with cinnamon and cloves, it too gets a purple-ish color but way deeper
It's super delicious and very sweet, I love it!
