ESP32, MQTT and Home Assistant

ESP32, MQTT and Home Assistant.
I set out to find example sketches that have WiFi and MQTT that are suitable to work with Home Assistant. Amazingly I only find two example sketches that have WiFi with MQTT that also authenticate using device name, user name and password. This is what is needed for Home Assistant.

I had exactly that issue with a bunch of esp8266s and the Twatch and wrist epaper. No luck whatsoever. I've heard some comments that it might be 2.4GigaHertz vs 5GigaHertz wifi networks but even flipping around on a router from both, just 2.4, just 5, no change.

In serial monitor im getting a message saying connecting to mqtt broker . . . . WiFiClient disconnected. Then the process repeats and that keeps happening, am i supposed to have my IP address somewhere? or what is the issue? Im using the second method.
