►SCRIPT

So the first thing I noticed is how Hardwell’s EQ’s his tracks when he transitions.

So when mixing the next song in, he prefers to always have it’s LOW Eq all the way to the left side, with everything else is at 12 O’clock position including the current song.

When he brings the next song’s volume up, Hardwell tends to balance the frequencies by bringing the current song’s EQ’s to the 11 o’Clock Position.

He varies with this though, but he mostly affects the Low and High EQ’s of the previous song when mixing.

Now, when his next track’s volume is all the way up, he usually brings the current song’s LOW EQ all the way to the left side, and does either 4 things interchangeably

1. He Filters it out with an echo effect activated
2. He brings the volume fader down with an echo effect activated as well
3. He Back spins the track with an echo effect also activated
4. He simply brings the volume fader down

Now let’s move on to how Hardwell likes to enhance and compliment his EDM Build Ups.

So the first way he does so is by using a 1/8 roll effect on a build up as it continues to grow. But the trick here is how he activates and deactivates the effect to add more tension to the build up.

He also does a variation of this by messing around with the roll effect’s 1/4 and 1/8 beat length

And sometimes he even just activates a 1/8 roll on a build up and just drives that in before the song reaches its drop

Since we’re on the topic of using effects to accent a track, Hardwell implements 2 ways in doing this.

So the first and easiest way he does this is by simply High Pass filtering a track during its chorus section.

He also alternates doing this technique with an Echo effect but when does accent, he also brings the LOW eq of the track to the left and back to better emphasize what he’s doing

So Hardwell likes to use loops.

So as 2 songs are mixing with each other, Hardwell creates a 1 beat loop on the current song and activates an echo effect on it.

Then he simply makes that 1 beat loop tighter and tighter till it reaches 1/8. And he does this by first using the CDJ’s touch screen controls, then by using the CDJ’s jogwheels.

And when he finally does reach the 1/8 beat length, he simply brings the volume fader down all the way down.

So this last observation really surprised me, but Hardwell also scratches.

And he likes to implement his scratching during the build up sections in songs.

So with that in mind, to do this Hardwell scratch. All you have to do push the platter and slam the crossfader up and down

So going back to what Hardwell did, he starts out by doing his scratch on the next song as the current song’s build up plays

And he puts some variation in it, by also baby scratching the track

Then he does his scratch a little bit more, stops, then mixes the next song in by playing it when the current song reaches its drop.

Hardwell is definitely best mainstream dj when we talk about EQing and his transitions are always so clean and smooth!

This gives me comfort that Hardwell is not playing pre recorded 😂

I feel like a lot of people get confused as DJ’s (such as Hardwell) will have pre made MASHUPS but still do transition between songs/mashups.

I saw Hardwell back in 2014 when he came to my hometown, and i was pleasantly surprised to hear him scratching. Not sure if he was scratching a full song, but it sounded like a long noise synth that he just made a solid rhythm with when scratching. It was towards the end of his set

For a few years now i have been mixing by manually mapping my midi keyboard controlls to a dj software just to have the EQs and a few other basic elements like looping or fx units, now, years later, i finally bought my first dj controller and am able to really start to learn and i have to say your channel is a huge help <3 subscribed

I like these videos, I can normally see or work out most of what a dj is doing but I love the detail you go into.
I would like you to analyse Roger Sanchez.
Keep up the good work
