What???😱 110$?? This is just ridiculous, simply ridiculous. For 110$ you can buy T12, Yihua 908D, *both* and still have 60$ remained. Or a pretty good soldering station for that price (with heat gun, too).

From Aliexpress.

Retail industry is still scamming people...

I just bought the same iron on banggood for $13 Canadian dollars..I figured for that price it probably wouldn't be the best iron on the market but I already have a soldering station that uses the same tips which is a bonus..The main reason for buying it though is that my only iron is the soldering station and after 5+ years of use the heating element finally died..I need a soldering iron to fix a soldering iron so as long as it can handle some occasional light use I'll be happy with it.

I have been using the circa £7 24 volt Hakko, or similar, irons for some years, and while they are not as good as my trusty Weller TCP (Magnastat?) iron, which I've had since the mid 1970s, they are cheap as are the replacement tips and adequate for 95+% of my electronics work. They are disposable items, though spares are cheap and easily available, and I have no complaints other than the 24 volt PSU has to be recalibrated whenever the iron's heating element is changed. As with all tools one must choose the right one for the job in hand and large joints and extensive ground planes call for a more powerful iron with a greater thermal mass. As for getting what you pay for I am afraid that that is often not the case.

Thanks for the review, I was thinking of buying one but am now duly forewarned.

I just watched both your videos about this temperature adjusting soldering iron and I am looking now at that same soldiering on that I've just had delivered and I have just noticed a few improvements that they have made one of these is a rubberised collar just where you grip it with your fingers so that it's easier to hold and perhaps better insulation and also a cold support where the electric wire goes into the back of the solving on i take your point about the i'm not having much thermal mass but when i ordered mind it came with 5 extra tips some of which appear to have a spot solid wide thick tip.

They certainly don't make things like they used to and looking at this soldering it looks almost pocket-sized.

But knowing the warnings you've given will help me get better life out of this soldering iron.

I don't remember if this on was from banggood or not.. in fact it was from eBay and cost me$17 USD.

It came with 5 extra tips
A clean up sponge and a stand.

You can change from celsius to fahrenheit using the settings function by pressing plus and minus and also turning it on.. while wiggling your nose.

You can also calibrate the unit by holding the plus and minus with the power turned on already and then using the plus and minus to enter the difference in temperature displayed v the temperature that you separately record of the solder that you heated.

Some may not go to this trouble but others will prefer to know the exact temperature the soldron on is trying to reach and stay at.

I think you may be holding the soldering iron in a way that makes it difficult to read..

Would an Antex or Hakko tip fit this Iron

Sorrry Forgive me but I meant to say, would the Hakko tips fit this iron as they look very Similar.
The TS -100 is totally different but is mean to be a beast of a soldering iron.

The Hakko tip will probably be a tight fit and hold the heat as a result. I wouldn't abandon it without giving the Hakko chisel tip a go on this soldering iron.

Strange way of holding a soldering iron actually.

You basically hold it like a pen.
good video, thanks! :)

Is the iron tip grounded? that seems to have a grounded mains connector ... it would be interesting to know if the tip is also grounded.

It was a chisel tip, now it's a shovel tip

You should have known better. That is like expecting a 12 volt battery for a remote control to start your car compaired to a 12 volt car battery. Just because their both 12 volts does not mean they can be used for that application.

I guess you get what your budget can pay for. Maybe if you upped the budget a little. Eggs have gone up 60% here in Australia. I still buy eggs. Why complain that a $20 soldering iron has gone up $1. You cannot make a silk purse from a sow's ear.
