#SlowAirSunday: Mist Covered Mountains
Live Bagpipe Performance by Dark Isle Piper
This song feels like a longing for home with its wistful calming melody.

Tune History:
This slow air is also known in Scottish Gaelic as "Chì mi na mòrbheanna" and is commonly known in English as "The Mist-Covered Mountains of Home." Written in 1856 by Highlander John Cameron a native of Ballachulish and known locally in the Gaelic fashion as Iain Rob and Iain Òg Ruaidh.
The song is a longing for home with its wistful calming melody and traditional ballad rhythms it is often used as a lullaby.

Dark Isle Piper's message:
"Sometimes I find myself moving through life too quickly.
Driving home after performing at a wedding I saw the most breathtaking views of the Mountains and I had to stop and enjoy the beauty. So I pulled over in a small turn out and got out of my car just to breath in all the beauty. Listening to the birds singing as the sun was setting brought me so much peace. I needed the moment more than I realized. Then the idea occurred to me that I should join in celebrating the sunset so I pulled out my Bagpipes and my fingers found the perfect tune to play at that moment, "Mist Covered Mountains". Inspired by the beauty around me, I couldn't just drink it all in by myself. I wanted to share it with the world. So here it is, cars flying by in the back ground and all!
Let's all take moments out of our busy schedules to Breathe in the beauty all around us daily. It will inspire you, I promise!

When those Pipes & Drums started yesterday what came next was most probably the most beautifully moving thing I have ever seen or heard in my lifetime.

Her Majesty's funeral was the first time i heard this music. Incredibly powerful and beautiful, especially played by so many.

’d never heard it before, but, the very… sombre melody along with the rhythmic beat of the drums, the gentle speed, and how the music seemed to be part of the performance or Marching, Marching with great honour. I can think of a hundred songs that could have been sung at that point, but not one would have been right, or more fitting than this piece played so well and professionally.

It took me on a journey, and framed my mind that Her Late Majesty was making a journey, not just to the Abbey, but also a journey of her soul.

How one piece of music can give you so many levels of meaning, feeling and of thought… Music is one of the greatest things on earth that we take for granted.

We watched as they played, we felt as they played and we mourned as they played. We also have thanks, thanks to her, for her life of service, but thanks to God, for granting us the blessing that was HM Queen Elizabeth.

Truly beautiful, both the performance and the scenery. Just goes to show that so often the best moments come when we don't plan them but simply allow them to occur.

Quelle mélodie prenante ! Et comme elle exprimait bien lors des funérailles de votre reine bien-aimée l'émotion profonde de vos peuples ! (un ami breton)

Such powerful, moving scenes seeing and hearing the Queen’s funeral procession open with this haunting, driving piece of music as the Royal Navy ratings moved her from Westminster Hall, charged to the beat of those rolling drums.

…and played exactly as it was 20 years before at the beginning of her mothers funeral.

I don't know why this piece always makes my eyes well up. This was beautifully played and artfully filmed.
