Jazz Saxophone duet with solo. #saxophone #duet

This is called “Hungry” and is a 12 bar Blues in G. It comes from Jazzduets intermediate saxophone duets.
It is easy, to ‘knock yourself out’ in your front room playing alone but alot more challenging to play in a band - that is what my guru teacher used to tell us every week in Big band rehearsal.
He was so right!

Playing in a group is a whole different thing.
You have to fit in, be a team player, which is loads of fun!

Duet playing is the smallest form of ensemble/ band playing.
Each
element of music comes under the microscope.
The rhythm of a duet comes from the players themselves (not a drummer) so every note counts harmonically and rhythmically.
Even the length of the notes are important to the “feel” of the groove and can determine if the will the duet ensemble sounds polished or not.
