Gold Chips from Computer Mice

Gold recovery items come from all sorts of electronics, Here I open up some computer mice for their circuit board which usually have a gold ic chip type thing with gold legs and gold bonding wires inside.

Not bad if you compare them to regular dip ic chips which may or may not have gold inside, well worth busting open all your scrap mice to get these to add to your gold recovery collection.

I never thought mice were worth taking apart. Great video!

In case anyone's curious, the unit being targeted for recovery here is actually a wee tiny (and very low resolution) digital camera sensor, or CCD. Definitely only found in optical mice, don't waste time looking for them on the old mechanical ball meese.

Hey Ben, what i also collect are all of the LED's. They all have some gold bonding and other precious metals inside.

nice find .ive been gathering those for years now good stuff. Try a laser diode in dvd or disk drives or the ones in security cams .good chunk of gold.

It's actually the "thing" that makes the red light. I have found that there will not be one in a ball mouse. Only in optical mice. They do add a nice boost to the gold pot.

My Logitech has a ribbon cable for the side buttons and lights. It looks like it has silver traces rather than copper much like the Mylar sheets found in keyboards that have silver on them. It does look like it has silver in it but it doesn't amount to much unless you have a bunch of them. I forgot the model of the mouse, it is an old one and it wore off but it is one of those laser mice with the invisible laser. The circuit boards and the connectors on them also have bits of gold but that is not a lot. Look closely in the ribbon cable sockets and you may find gold. It is not a lot but it adds up if you can get them off the board. That damned RoHS solder probably makes it easier to get things off.

Sometimes I unscrew them, otherwise I turn them sideways and smack them open with the claw of the hammer or my dull hatchet. I do see a lot of these with the gold legs too.

I've been throwing these in with low grade boards!  What a waste.  I'll start paying more attention to my mice.
