I would like to thank my African American brothers and sisters, for giving me some of the best music of my life. Starting with Ray Charles, to the golden age of Motown, to the soul and funk of the 70's; You shaped my mind and psyche. For that I'm forever grateful.

I'm close to 80 & these lyrics still show me the value of expressing. When I was younger, the best expressing was in dancing. Because it wasn't for impressing it was for expressing my inner fun & enjoyment of rhythm & movement & personal interpreting joy. AND others were impressed.
An honest expression should be taught in schools. AND opinions should not be condemned or praised. Just come to terms with whatever & wherever you may be in life & circumstances. The answers from others is not your answer. AND for you who have rebelled & for those of you who have conformed it's not to late to re-evaluate your reasoning & your motives. Find where they are & why & be first honest & sincere with yourself & your true expression may be hidden or rediscovered. Then EXPRESS YOUR LIFE.

Listen up youngsters, I saw them live in the 70"s  at McLaren Park in the city by the bay.  I paid  $2 bucks to see that horn section live.  The band members funky foot work was as bumping as the beat.

I was watching the commercial that plays this song. I wanted to hear the whole song!

James Gadsen's groove...just snare, hats, bass drum...no toms or crashes...pure groove...the confidence to play that deep in the pocket is who James was...some of the funkiest 8 bars of drumming ever recorded on that horn section!

This is one of the most infectiously wonderful jams of all time. I dare you to sit still while this is played. I surely cannot.

I hear this song frequently being played in the Chic-Fil-a restaurants and it always brings a smile to my face.I was a ninth grader in 1969 and it was a favorite of mine even then.😊

I heard Express Yourself on a commercial and instantly remembered the song from my teen years. I even remembered the words. It's nice to hear the whole song.
