academy — depends whether their parents signed the children up at MBA from the beginning. lots of them come from other ballet / dance studios to get into MBA’s pre pro programme.

audition — yes. like mentioned above, the girls here are part of the pre-pro programme. the classes that MBA had for recreational dancers is different, these are just like any other studio’s weekly class. but for the pre-pro programme, you have to audition in, because they require a certain level of proficiency in ballet to train towards being a professional ballet dancer (thus the programme being called pre pro (a.k.a pre-professional).

performing company — the school doesn’t have its own professional ballet company, if you’re thinking if it works like the royal ballet (and royal ballet school) or the Mariinsky ballet (with vaganova ballet academy). the girls do perform MBA’s own productions though, and they dance with phoenix ballet every now and then. it’s just not a “company” company, rather an academy / studio.

applying to other ballet companies — yes, that’s what happens. once they graduate from MBA (like Maya schonbrun and Amber Skaggs), they audition for professional ballet companies and see if they get hired. Maya got into Royal Swedish Ballet, and Amber got into Boston Ballet. the other graduates are also in ballet companies across the country. Maya even recently did her swan lake debut in a principal role (Odette / Odile), despite only being in her 2nd year in the company (usually in the corps de ballet).
