Visible Removes Speed Cap - $40/month Unlimited Verizon Plan – Mobile Hotspot at 5 Mbps

Visible, Verizon's own app-based prepaid subsidiary which launched a year ago, today announced that their plan would no longer have speed caps. Ever since launch, the plan has had a hard 5 Mbps speed cap for on device and mobile hotspot use.

BUT, a quick read of the fine print indicates that this full-speed bonanza is only for on device data.

All data used on Visible via personal mobile hotspot (MHS) will continue to be throttled to 5 Mbps - which will remain a consideration for our audience seeking options for use as a home internet replacement while traveling by RV or boat.

People have commented on Reddit that iPhones connect to up to 5 devices via hotspot. Android phones can do only 1 device.

Maybe using something like PDAnet on Android will be able to remove the hotspot speed limit. 5mbps isn't bad unless you have more than just a couple of devices to connect, though. But obviously if you have more than a couple devices, a physical hotspot would make more sense.

You’re info is correct...but, hotspot changed to 5-10 mbps....it’s still at 480p, but those that are living alone can use it with there tv/internet at home. According to Visible, this will be permanent if you don’t drop the account. According to the Visible article....they will be coming out with new additions later this year!! I just checked it on my MacBook Pro....I got a 10.1 up/5.6 down

On my iPhone XS Max I don’t have the 5mbps cap on the hotspot and I can connect more than 1 device on the hotspot

Another problem, I, and many others, had Visible and soon noticed areas where I had no signal but friends with Verizon had full signal. This I have heard is that Visible uses only "native" towers, and cannot use towers of regional carriers that Verizon has contracted with.

I just re read what you were talking about on the 5 Mbp cap...if you read the beginning of the sentence, they are chatting about phase 1 of adding the hotspot to the plan. I’ll try contacting there reps....they haven’t completely update everything yet!!! It’s very confusing

Of course, you could connect "one device" -- a wireless router NATting!

i am also wondering is if for some reason like a current customer gets their service shut off for like maybe a month and then gets it turned back on if they will have the same plan with the unlimited data not throttled just for the phone part

You can easily switch from 480p to 1080p while watching youtube videos. Even though I'm typing this on a computer, I am viewing your video now on my iPhone XR in 1080P and it isn't buffering! Not using a VPN either (which is typically the way around the buffering you'd get at higher bandwidths).

What kind of network speed will I get with Visible?

We’re built for life on the go. Which means you’ll typically experience 4G LTE network download speeds of 5-12 Mbps and upload speeds of 2-5 Mbps. Video typically streams at a resolution of 480p - nice and crisp on your phone. Heads up: when the network gets congested your data could slow down for a bit (it’s normal).

When you say you are still capped at 5mps I am assuming you restarted your phone as Visible instructs in order to get the uncapped service...right? When I restarted my phone Visible showed 17mps down and 8mps up. Also since I have had Visible for over a year now I have never had a problem with using more than one device simultaneously...like my desktop, laptop and TV.

Pings are all over the place today. I've consistently gotten pings as low as 26ms. Other's in the 30's and 40's.
