⬇️ Tips for visiting Machu Picchu below
If Machu Picchu is on your bucket list (and it should be) you need to make it happen because it’s seriously more incredible in person, and photos & videos really don’t do it justice!
📸 This exact view is from Circuit 1, which takes you to the upper terrace of Machu Picchu and gives you the full panoramic view you’ve seen all over social media.
Here are my tips for visiting Machu Picchu:
🌿 Although you can visit on your own, if you book a tour guide you’ll really get to learn so much! We did the Magical Peru tour with Air Transat and it was honestly the perfect first timers itinerary for Peru
🌿 Altitude medication helped a whole lot with altitude sickness so I definitely recommend getting a prescription and taking it to prevent any symptoms
🌿 Bring a rain coat or poncho. It will likely rain at least a bit while you are up there
🌿 There are no bathrooms in Machu Picchu so go at the gates before you start your circuit
🌿 You can’t bring a tripod, selfie stick, umbrella, or any bags bigger than a regular backpack
🌿 Make sure to book your Machu Picchu tickets far in advance. There are only 5650 people allowed in per day and you need to reserve your spot ahead of time!
🌿 To visit you will need tickets for the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town), tickets for the bus up to Machu Picchu from Aguas Calientes (if you’re not hiking), AND tickets for Machu Picchu itself.
🌿 If taking the bus up like I did, you’ll want to be in line at least 1.5 hours in advance. The longest I waited for the bus was close to 2 hours and we were an hour late for our entry time 🙈. The wait normally is around 1 hour
🌿 If you are only spending one day on Machu Picchu and only doing 1 circuit, I would recommend circuit 2 as it will give you the opportunity to explore some of the lower terraces and get a great higher terrace view similar to this. BUT if you have two days or are doing two circuits in a day I recommend doing circuit 1 & 3 like I did so you get this panoramic view and can do a more in depth walk through of the lower terraces
