Had a 1986 Cavalier Gli for years, my first car. Yes, that’s right it was an injection 😅. Solid cars had absolutely no issues. Performed all the maintenance myself. I’ve owned Mercs, BMWs, Porsche nothing gave me the pleasure as much as that £850 car

Always great to see another mk2 Cavalier still going. These cars were on every street in the country back in the day so sad they have nearly all but disappeared. I love these cars and I also own a 1600L. A 1985 saloon in Carmine red. Keep up the good work Steve. 🚘🇬🇧

Been in a few of these in the '80s. One mate had a 1.6 GL in green. He bought an 1800 SRi engine for it for £75. So we fitted that & it was great.

Another mate had a rare X-reg Cavalier SR ( 1600cc carburetted ) saloon. And two others had SRi hatchbacks.

I've always had a fancy for a mark 2. Such a shame that they were the most commonly scrapped car at one point.
The planned job to repair the rust hole under the filler cap sounds like a lot of work!

This takes me back! My mate, Cameron had a saloon in that lovely colour at school and I had a black one at Uni. Mine was a 1.6 and the 90BHP 4 speed had great pulling power! 😊

I was watching this on the preview where you get the subtitles.
When you were cranking it over the subtitles said [Laughter] and when it started it said [Music] !!!

down here is South Africa, was known as Opel Ascona, or Opel record, if im not mistaken, with familtyII engine, if i remember correctly the ONLY annoying problem i had was the vacuum advance, occasionaly you might hear a "puff" sound at start-up especially after a long drive - thats fuel vapor escaping into the distributor, so check the Vacuum Advance unit regulary - suck on it-see if it holds vacumm? While you at it, also check your PCV vacuum pipe, if clogged will casue annoying oil-leaks, and rich running

I'd love to see this having a full restoration. Unfortunately these things are costly! Look forward to any future videos on this car. Can you do one on the cavalier in front?

The multi point 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0L were such willing engines, way better than a lot of other family cars at the time,
Around 1994, after a brief time in a Mk1 2.0L auto, I bought a 1983 Mk2 1.8 Cdi auto for £600. Fantastic car with a 115bhp.
Some guy trying his luck, tried swapping his Volvo 2.2 auto with me, and me giving him £300! I just laughed!
Days later he offered a straight swap and I laughed again.
Another week, he offered £200 plus his
thinking about it, I said, ok, if you beat me up a steep hill front a standing start, you gotta deal! I already knew the result!
We lined up and floored it. He was 40 metres behind me after 150 metres! Old Volvos were built like tanks....he didn't have a clue or a hope!

Had a red y reg gls hatch and then ‘upgraded’ to a b reg grey sri hatch in the early 90’s. Nicked and wrecked. ☹️

that hatch version is very rare here, did not sell well in the 80's
