Decades prior to the Imperial Japanese armed forces invasion (starting 1931) spoken of in this short video, there were international settlements (large numbers of outsiders) in China, and these outsiders make very believable witnesses; whereas, they were unbiased and caught up in it.
Some of these outsiders filmed the atrocities committed by the Imperial Japanese forces against Chinese civilians (particularly the "rap€ of Nanking" in 1937).
Some of the old film was converted to digital video perhaps 90 years later and posted on YouTube.
One such short video is a group of about 5 Chinese males dressed in civilian clothing being buried alive with dirt up to their necks, and shovel - fulls of dirt being thrown on the Chinese mens' faces.
The reason for this was that the soldiers of the Imperial Japanese Army were taught that a Chinese life was not worth the few cents cost of a bu||et.

Richard’s book ‘Tower of Skulls’ on the Japanese from 1937-42 is awesome. Really recommend it to anyone interested in this topic

Saw the title, no context and thought it was about the potential of modern Japan invading China. I was "Woah woah, when was _that_ on the table?!"

Seems like the civilian fear of the Japanese Army was rivalled most by fear if the Russian forces (although the SS elements of the Wehrmacht were just as brutal).
