I had 4 FJ40’s 1970, 1972, 1975 and a 1977. I was buying them cheap and fixing them up and reselling them. the 1975 was my baby. Ol’ dusty. Unfortunately, as I got older, my knee gave out, and I was unable to operate the clutch without extreme pain. I didn’t want to tear her up and make them into automatic, so I sold her. I did buy the FJ cruiser when it came out. I had the blue one. After a few years, I sold it because I just didn’t like it. I hear they came out with a new FJ, I’m looking at them, not sure if I will get one. I make my days of wheeling are behind me. But I still love them, when I see one go by, I will stop and watch it and miss those good old days.

Nice video, good job…The “fj40 pickup” as you call it is actually the fj45 or bj-hj for the diesels 😉.

Nice video. Sure miss my 73 Land Cruiser. It was an awesome machine. Bought her new and had her for 3 years. Wish I still had it or another one. If I had a choice...I'd think a 4 speed after 74 would be a great choice. Mine was red and even though it wasn't good on gas...it would pull a house off it's foundation.

This was my dream vehicle since I was 12. I'm now retired and maybe I'll take on one as a restoration/ hobby.

Thanks for posting this. I think most of your info was pretty accurate but having followed the FJ40's since 1974, there were a few items that could be debated. Liked the video clips. May want to give some credit to the posters of those clips including Greg's Restorations in Rutland, MA. He took top honors at SEMA a couple years back with his FJ40 restomod.

There are some great great looking rigs here but a bit of misinformation. However any one of these would be a treasure to have.❤ ❤

ditto the last comments. some of your statements are a bit "off". That aside, thanks for posting this video. The FJ40's are iconic and deserve any publicity they can get.

I really enjoyed my 81 fj....but not my internal organs and my clutch leg....the frame length was not good for LA commutes. Better to tow it to BLM land and then have a good time!

Does Toyota FJ40 1961-1965 have a differential lock?

Question: I am in the process of purchasing a 1971 FJ40, but it has three on the tree instead of a floor shift. Was that an option? It also has the PTO winch and bumper on it. Last but not least, the paint is really really old, but it looks like the Seminole red that you showed in your video.

Rust, rust and rust. Plus short wheelbase drive like shit.
