Looking at it today the city described seems like New York City and the woman seems like the Roman Catholic Church. As this is the church of universalism stooped in every religion on Earth and engrained with ancient Egyptian symbology where Freemasonry comes from and ultimately in my belief was created in ancient Babylon. Just my thoughts. Also arrayed in Purple (Phoenicians) and Scarlet! The colors of the Vatican clergy.

This is why we should search scriptures ourselves as we listen and learn from others but I will be the first to say that it is gravely concerning to me how much trust we place on man and their understanding.
I know personally as I have grown that many things I initially thought was correct, I later learned were in error. I continue to grow and learn and what I have found is that when I take time to pray in earnest for discernment from Holy Spirit, the more I learn.

As we get closer to the last days, we will understand many passages that those before us didn't.
I'm glad you figured this one out. However I've never heard anyone sensationalize it. People like Chuck Missler for example, were just operating in the light they had at the time.
It's good to have new light shone on this passage though even if it isn't a major tenet of our faith. I don't expect to be here to see it.

mathew 19:16-21

Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
18 “Which ones?” he inquired.
Jesus replied,  “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery,  you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony,  19 honor your father and mother, ’[a] and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]”
20 “All these I have kept, ” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus answered,  “If you want to be perfect,  go, sell your possessions and give to the poor,  and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Jesus quoting from the law and told the person to follow these laws so that they may have eternal life.

nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant — not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Not the letter of the law but the Spirit of the Law.

Following commandments isn't being justified by the works of the Law if you have Faith!
Revelation 2:20-23
20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Sounds like not everyone is going unless they repent of their sins.

Repent and follow Jesus Repent and turn from sin Repent turn to God we don't want anyone left behind, we desire everyone to come to the knowledge of the truth and to be saved!

MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. With the text emphasized like this in every KJB I've read. Looks like the translators really meant it!

In my view, there will not be a revival of the Roman empire, but a revival of the Babylonians. This will come from the new king in England.
They just did a show for the commonwealth games in 2022 that explains it all. If you look up Janie Duvall channel you can see an excellent upload titled "This 2022 Event Just uploaded 5 days ago.

In the KJV there is a comma between the word Mystery and the word Babylon. That makes all the difference I would think
