You make those feathers look so easy! I did my first free motion feathers on a quilt this past April. I used chalk to mark it out freehand first though. I am currently awaiting the arrival of my first long arm. Hopefully watching you and others can help improve my skills. You do some beautiful work!

Really thick batting helps with feathers as the channel indented into the batting helps the needle return more easily to backtrack. It takes a lot of practice but it’s worth i!

I really like this style but I have to use the regular sewing machine because my sisters long arm does not sew from the front like these newer machines do and you cannot slow the machine down like these new ones do.I’m not quite picking up the design when you change to the shorter loops it’s so beautiful and I want to do this on the border of a quilt I’m almost done on

My feathers really improved when I started seeing them as half of a heart shape. Before that they always looked like blobs. I also had a lot of improvement over all just by watching quilting videos and tracing the design that was being made on my computer screen, with my finger in the air, making the same motions. That really helped with the timing aspect of it. Hope this helps someone! Have a great day everybody!
