Iconic Hill, Bukit Gambir (Botak Hill) - Penang Hiking

Iconic Hill or previously known as Botak Hill become a new hiking spot at Bukit Gambir, Penang.

Overall, the route or road is just cement with a very flat surface. Hence, the environment is spacious and a lot of cyclists too.

Don't worry about you will getting lost as the crowd of hikers are always in a big group, you can just follow them to the top of the hill.

As always, I suggest can come down from the Iconic Hill as early as around 8am. The later you walk down, the sun is getting hotter and you no longer enjoy the journey.

I would say this location is suitable for family as it's beginner-friendly and nothing challenging.

At the top of the Iconic Hill, you can see both Penang Bridges, Kek Lok Si, Paya Terubang and a lot of hills. It always feels refreshing when you can view various part of the Penang with a higher attitude.

**Update on 9th Apr 2021: The local government authorities already demolished the 'pondok and toilet' as it's illegal and without any permit.**

This is the first time I'm using the 6K Photo mode with a 3:2 ratio to have the 5184x3456px straight into the Panasonic Lumix GH5. I recommend enable to guideline to display the 16:9 in the GH5, so it will save some time during post-processing.

Actually, I just choose all the videos, switch to "Fill" for the 'Spatial Conform' in the Final Cut Pro. This bulk selection is auto-cropping all the videos into the middle of the frame. I already have this intention during the recording while hiking, so I emphasize and prioritize the composition in the centre.

The codec recorded in this resolution is H.265/HEVC codec, which means you might need to transcode to ProRes if you don't have a stronger CPU. Luckily, my 2020 13" inch MacBook Pro still can handle and edit the videos smoothly. But after adding the Lut and light grading for the exposure, it no longer smoothes anymore.

I decide to use the 16:9 aspect ratio for the final format of this video, so the resolution is 5184x2916px.

Not sure I miss any configuration or not, filming the videos in 6K Photo is unable to listen to the audio playback from the camera. This means I only can view the videos to check without any sound.
