Alice In Chains performing "Nutshell" at Val de Moine in Clisson, France on June 24, 2018. Jerry Cantrell often dedicates Nutshell to Layne Staley and Mike Starr, but this time he dedicated the song to his longtime friend and Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, who passed away two days before the concert. I’m in shock. At age 74 I’ve finally found the band I’ve been looking for all my life.

Jerry expresses emotions through guitar like Layne did through his voice..

Jerry Cantrell to me has to be one of rock and metal's most underrated guitarist ever

Jerry doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Solos are haunting and riffs are awesome

I feel so fuckinig bad about Jerry, all of his friends in music just happen to die... Layne, Mike, Dime, Chris and now Vinnie... the man must be made of iron by now to take it. I hope he manages to still strong for many years to come.

I played Layne singing this at my 9 day olds sons funeral whom my husband and I named Layne after Layne Thomas Staley. RIP both are now Angel's.

No one can ever replace Layne but DuVall is the real deal 🔥

I have a Siberian Husky and whenever this song comes on, she howls along to the "oooh" parts. Shit, she's doing it now.

This is really sad for Jerry Abbott, father of Vinnie and Darrell, who has now had to bury two sons. Parents aren’t supposed to outlive their kids. God bless, Mr. Abbott.

The thing I love about William is that he sings it like William, not like Layne. I am so glad they reformed with William and moved on, but not forgotten their past. Thank you AIC.

I love the image of Jerry at 4:25, just him alone in frame looking off into the distance, playing such an emotional song, making his guitar weep throughout. It's beautiful.

Jerry's solo in this performance brought tears to my eyes. Few can do that with just a guitar

He's not Layne but he does well and certainly deserves credit and perhaps Layne would approve. What a beautiful solo by Jerry...

My big Brother died yesterday from overdose complications. It was one of the first songs he taught me on the guitar. Im gonna play it on the funeral on friday in honor of his memory. He was always so proud of my playing...

When William does the oooh parts after the first verse... my soul aches... His voice is so gentle & caring... He KNOWS what this song means to AIC & their fans. He does a fantastic job! There's ALWAYS gonna be 6 people in this band 😭
