Julius Caesar and Cleopatra had a highly publicized affair during the first century BC. The relationship began when Caesar arrived in Egypt in pursuit of Pompey, who was seeking refuge there. Cleopatra saw this as an opportunity to forge an alliance. She disguised herself as a servant and was smuggled into Caesar's quarters in a carpet. When the carpet was unrolled, Cleopatra emerged, and her beauty and charm won over Caesar and they quickly became lovers.
Their relationship lasted several years, during which Cleopatra gave birth to Caesar son, Caesarion. Caesar's political enemies used his affair with Cleopatra as propaganda against him, painting him as a foreign lover and threat to Rome. Ultimately, Caesar's assassination in 44 BC put an end to their relationship.
