DAY 1 of WI v. Chandler Halderson - Halderson reported his parents missing on July 7, 2021 in Dane County, Wisconsin. In the state's opening statement, prosecutors laid out a web of lies allegedly told by the defendant. They claim that when that web came crumbling down the defendant murdered his parents and chopped their bodies into pieces.

I like his opening statement too... no fluff, factual, very clear. Respectful to the jurors, witnesses, and family. Good model for law students to follow, yes?

That defense opening statement sounded so pathetic. It’s almost like being accused of something & have so much proof against you and all you have to say back is “it wasn’t me”

This case reminds me of Bart Whitaker, he killed his family because he couldn’t keep up with his lies. He killed his mom and brother the night they were celebrating his “graduation” even though he was not even enrolled. So sad.

I’m glad you brought up that juries decide a defendant guilty or not guilty, not innocent. I notice a lot of people think not guilty means they’re innocent.

I also can't fathom killing my parents. My father passed when I was 18. I am still devastated by it 18 years later. My mother isn't perfect, but I love her so so much and can't imagine losing her in any way.

I usually work hard to at least recognize the points of contention in a case but this feels so absolutely cut and dry that he is guilty.

It feels like it is one of the trials where Defendant is admitting Guilt but fighting the Death Penalty.

I don’t see any route ahead but conviction

I have a feeling he's going to be found guilty regardless if the prosecution has enough evidence, unless he ends up testifying and explaining the certain coincidences and able to prove he's innocent.
