Constantine named his city "New Rome", but it didnt stick. It became commonly known as Constantinople soon after his death. "New Rome" became more of a nickname.

Your chronology is out of order. The Arab invasion of the 7th century was basically the main cause of the iconoclasm conflict. Many Byzantines argued that the Arabs (who were fiercly agaisnt the use of religous images) were a punishment sent by God because the Byzantines were venerating icons. And that God wouldnt favor the Byzantines until the icons were destroyed.

So Arab invasion first, iconoclasm next.
