Constructing A Byzantine Sundial-Calendar - Part 8 (Engraving & Final Assembly)

Показать описание
Hey Folks,

Designed and constructed in 2016-2019 as a companion project to the Antikythera mechanism, this video series is an alternative look at the second oldest geared mechanism from antiquity: The Byzantine (London) Sundial-Calendar.

Those of you who are Patrons will notice that for this YouTube release of the series I've spruced up the intro card and soundtrack, and also combined a few episodes together to make it all a bit more efficient for the viewer. For those who are seeing this narrated build series for the first time, do please enjoy!

Cheers.
Chris.

"without being too difficult" - yeah, right. I've watched every step of this and still can't believe what I've seen. You're a true artist, Chris!

Did anyone else raise an eyebrow or laugh when Chris said "It's challenging without being too difficult"? An absolute work of art. Well done Chris.

You know its always a treat when clickspring uploads. 100% the most satisfying channel on the internet. Clicks all the springs and turns all the dials. With just the right amount of polish with finish as brilliant as brass.

Congratulations on completing this beautiful device, you should be proud of yourself. Of course Internet law states that now we have seen your cat you must name him/her and acknowledge his/her contribution.

That you engraved parts that are on the *inside* takes the cake.

You SIR don't make AMAZING machines - You SIR are the machine.
Can't remember when I stumbled upon your channel. When I see you have uploaded a new video, if need be, I will be late for work just to watch it!
Can't wait to see what you take on next.
The quality, the explanations, the detail, the how&why, the tools (and making of your own tools), the machines... shold I go on... ate unparalleled to anything else I see out there 😂
Thank you so much for showing the world your smarts and skills.
You SIR are appreciated - Thank you and cheers!

17:45 We really have not changed all that much. The oldest "<noun> walks into a bar"-joke is on a clay tablet from ~1700 BCE, but my favorite proverb/joke from the same tablet is one that reads "The dog understands 'Take it!', but it does not understand 'Put it down!'" (compare with contemporary "no take only throw" memes). The person who wrote that was more ancient to the Byzantines than the Byzantines are to us, yet we still make the same observation and find it humorous.

The Quality Control Inspector was impressed! This is such a beautiful piece of work. Thanks you for sharing your skills on how to make this sundial-calendar.

It's so often easy to forget the scale that Chris works in, with the exquisite macro photography, and just just how small the details are.
