Look I get Private Equity can be pretty scummy but this is grossly misleading. Assets Under Management (AUM) can encompass hundreds to thousands of other investors and companies. This would be like saying the bank owns all our money. Does Blackstone make a F ton of money off managing? Absolutely, but these assets aren't really just theirs. This applies to virtually every private equity. I'm simplifying but think of it like a private mutual fund.
