These Cuties Will Literally Die to Stress

This may look like a simple, wholesome video, but what he’s doing is actually something that could potentially kill it. These are tarsiers, which are very small primates found only in a few small areas in Southeast Asia, and the one seen in this video is the Philippine Tarsier, which is a near-threatened species. Tarsiers, in general, are very delicate and highly emotional creatures known to be easily stressed and sensitive to their environment. Their delicate skeletal structure is easily harmed by touch or handling, and excess noise or movement can cause them to hurt themselves. Tarsiers have even been observed to bang their heads or literally stop breathing when stressed, essentially ending their own lives. While the vloggers may have been holding these animals out of curiosity or without intending harm to the tarsiers, if you encounter one yourself, it would be best to leave these animals alone.

I once went to see tarsiers with my family and there was a sign telling visitors to be quiet and careful when viewing the tarsiers because iirc there were incidents of them getting so stressed that they’d jump off trees or walk into the road to off themselves. Yikes 😬
